Sloth, Spirit Animal Series

2022, Digital Art, 10″x8″

In yet another early attempt a digital art in this series of three pieces I reflected on my perception of myself through animal symbolism. I am really happy with the texture of the fur and the color detail in the claws.

Queen of the Surface Streets

2012, Acrylic on Canvas, 22″ x 26″

Named after one of my favorite songs by the band Devotchka, this was a reflection on solemnity and beauty. I particularly like the way I was able to achieve depth in the layers that produces a glowing effect.

Stars Through a Newtonian Telescope

2022, Watercolor on Paper, 4"x4"

For a period of time last year, I focused on limiting my canvas size to force myself to create from a new perspective. Typically I work on quite a large scale, but I limited myself within these pieces to communicate within four square inches. Astronomy is a hobby I share with Joel, and this was a nod to our long nights in the dark together spent photographing the stars.

Frenetic

2022, Acrylic on Paper, 10″x12″

During the pandemic I was able to spend time using my art to process my emotions. I feel this captures the feeling of untethered anxiety.

Rage

2020, Acrylic on Paper, 10″x8″

Another in the series of my work using art as therapy during the pandemic. An attempt to capture my passionate anger in all of its beautiful ugliness.

Arctic

2016, Acrylic on Canvas, 14″x12″

From 2015 to 2016 I saw a shift in my art, particularly in experimenting with new methods and techniques. I like the use of space and brushwork in this piece helps convey the cold, moody tone intended.

Mountain Sunset

2020, Watercolor on Paper, 4″x8″

Another in my series of challenging myself to work small. I hoped to embody a sense of peace and the beauty of early morning light in this work.

Peonies

2022, Watercolor on Paper, 4″x8″

Working in watercolor within a limited space helped me to find new ways to depict an otherwise typical floral arrangement. I think the use of bright, contrasting colors lends the painting a cheery mood.

Mesmerize

2017, Acrylic on Canvas, 20″x24″

The sole survivor of my many experimentations with line and interrupted layers. I am pleased with the hypnotic sense of falling in that this achieves. Though I attempted this style many times, most were not to my liking, and I painted over the majority of them.

Verdure

2018, Acrylic on Canvas, 48″x36″

This is my biggest piece to date. I love working large and there is so much detail that is not evident in the smaller images shown. Best viewed full size.
